four days I will be walking down the aisle in front of everyone I know and love, and like most brides, I want to look and feel my best on the Big Day.

Advice on what a bride should be eating on her wedding day.
(Digital Vision/Getty Images)
More PhotosPart of being a beautiful, blushing bride will hopefully result from the countless beauty appointments I have in the next few days for everything from a manicure/pedicure to a massage to make-up on the wedding day.

But another part of it comes from feeling fit and fabulous in your dress.

If you go to enough weddingsand watch enough wedding shows on television, you can feel pressure to lose weight during your engagement and arrive for your first dress fitting a few sizes smaller. As soon as I changed my Facebook status from “in a relationship” to “engaged,” I started to get bombarded with ads for wedding diets.

Bride’s Guide: Today’s To-Do ListBride’s Guide, Day 3: Dress Code and AttireBride’s Guide, Day 5: Honeymoon HelpAnd I kept meaning to go on a wedding diet. I had the best intentions to start six months before the wedding or three months before the wedding. But it never really happened. I’m a pretty healthy eater to begin with and I just wasn’t disciplined enough to do anything beyond that.

I’m also not that disciplined when it comes to exercise, so I did sign up for some personal training sessions at my gym to get my upper body in shape for my strapless dress.

Wedding and event planner Mindy Weiss says that’s very common.

“Whether your goal is to shed a few pounds or spot-tone specific areas like your arms or torso, if you set realistic goals it’s certainly doable,” she writes. “The added benefit of exercise, of course, is that it’s a terrific stress reliever!”

And hitting the gym is much better than going on a crash diet, according to Mindy.

“It’s more important than ever at this time to eat a healthy diet, keep your energy up, and build strength to fight stress,” she writes in “The Wedding Book.”

She recommends a healthy diet based around high-energy food and plenty of water.

This weekend my mother and I did a “site survey” for my wedding.

Unique ideas for a guest book for your wedding day.
More PhotosWe staked out a wedding taking place at the church where I’m getting married in less than three weeks to see how everything unfolded. Parked strategically across the street from the church, we were able to observe what time the bridal party arrived, where guests were parking, and what time the ceremony started and ended. I even snuck unobtrusively into the back of the church to take a peek at the proceedings in progress!

The experience gave us some good ideas for the logistics on my wedding day. And now that I’ve tackled the wedding day timeline, the next step is communicating all of that logistical information to the wedding party and family members involved.

KATE WHALAN AND MICHAEL KOVAC
DOLTONE HOUSE, PYRMONT

The meeting
Kate was working part-time behind the bar at a rugby club in St Leonards when a young man approached her one night. “He was a spunky first-grade colt,” says Kate, a 30-year-old primary school teacher. “We went on our first date to Jason’s Kitchen in Cammeray and ended up dating for years after that.” Michael, a 30-year-old property developer, had to move to Brisbane for work four years after they met. After two years of long-distance dating, Kate moved to Brisbane. She laughs: “We got a couple of dogs and painted the house; all the typical things couples do when you move in together.”

The proposal
Five years after moving to Brisbane, the couple travelled back to Sydney one weekend to celebrate Kate’s grandfather’s 80th birthday. “The Friday night of the trip, Michael proposed on bended knee in front of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge,” Kate recalls. “Dad was especially stoked as Michael had asked for his permission four years earlier and he didn’t have to keep it a secret any more. It was an amazing night.”

The big day
The couple opted for a “classic yet simple” feel on their wedding day. Kate says: “The venue is spectacular on its own, so we wanted to complement it with elegant table decorations.” They exchanged vows on Bennelong Lawn in the Royal Botanic Gardens in front of 144 guests. Kate says the day’s highlight came when Michael performed Love Is in The Air at the reception. Michael says having all of their family and friends attending topped off “our perfect day”.

The dress
A metallic french lace gown with a V-shaped neckline by Culture Bridal Couture. Two layers of latte-coloured silk satin fell beneath the metallic lace and Swarovski crystals were beaded into the empire line. Lace straps were added to complete the look.

The cake
A three-tier cake, with three styles of mud cake, by Celebration Cakes. The base was chocolate, the middle was mango and coconut and the top was hazelnut. It was decorated with thick white icing.

Inexpensive Flowers It is as Smooth as Silk

Well , you thought that you could meet your budget.  But know you know more places where you could after all use the advice and products of a good florist.  Now the issue of your budget , and how much funds that you have allocated portions of your budget to floral arrangements rears its head again.   If you want more than you think prudence allows do not overlook the option of silk.  When done well . silk flower arrangements can be as lovely as the “real thing” – and they even look more than real and realistic.  With silk flowers you can even get a broader choice of colors.  And while it can be said that real flowers  perish and die quickly, leaving you to lament , money spent on something that just do not last long , silk flowers after all can be kept as decorations or keepsakes long after your wedding day and festivities.

If you cannot bear the thought and thoughts of not being able to smell the wedding flowers, but like the advantages of silk , compromise : use live where it is important to you and silk in other areas.  Some brides actually have two bouquet made  up , one real , the other one silk.  The bride can then keep which either one they prefer and use the other one for the infamous ( or famous)  bouquet toss.

Finding a caterer in Winnipeg is not hard. However finding one who is available for your chosen date might be a little more difficult. Finding a caterer that will work with you and has the ability to change to your needs as they unfold may be another story.

When you are looking for a caterer ask lots of questions, there are no “stupid” questions. You must feel comfortable with whomever you are doing business with.

!. Choose someone who is not overbooked for your wedding day. It is not uncommon for caterers to have multiple functions on a given day. Pick someone with no more than one or two bookings. No matter how big the company, the more functions the more logistic problems that can arise.

2. Pick a caterer that you have heard good reviews about, such as from friends or family.

3. Choosing someone, because they are the only company that you can think of may not be enough of an endorsement.

4.Choose a caterer that can address your requirements. All caterer do not do outside weddings for example or have limits on there ability to travel outside of city limits.

5. Remember that you are the boss, not them. Choose a caterer that does not have an “attitude”.

6. Pick a caterer that is upfront about pricing, includes everything in one price, and does not try to surprise you with last minute additions.

. 9 months before;

. Make a master hair schedule. Have your tresses trimmed every six weeks: this keeps the ends healthy and your style in shape.

. Create a “look book.” Start compiling photos from magazines of styles you might like for your wedding.

. Skip the blow dryer. If you’re addicted to blow-drying, give it a rest and let your locks air-dry at least once a week.

. Prefect your colour. If you want to add highlights. change your base colour or tinker with your hair in any chemical way, do it now. You do not want to be doing this just a few months before-you need time to perfect it!

.6 months before

. Wash your hair once a week with a clarifying shampoo, which helps remove excess product and any residue from your locks.

. Have a stylist recommend a deep-conditioning treatment for you to use at home once every two weeks.

. Seek expert advice. Start intensive consultations with your stylist about the options for the big day. Share your magazine clippings and details about your dress and headpiece. From there, you can brainstorm about your look.

. Book a trial appointment. Plan to bring along your tiara and veil so the stylist can create the perfect style.

. 3 months before

. Settle on a hairstyle. Have at least one last trial with your stylist to ensure you are completely happy with your look you’ve chosen for your wedding.

. Get special treatments. Every time you have a cut or colour, ask your stylist to trow in a special treatment for your hair to give it a boost, such as a special shine treatment or a deep-conditioning system. This will leave your hair and scalp feeling rejuvenated.

. Book your wedding-day appointment. You can never book too early-you want to make sure you get a prime time slot with your stylist.

. Now isn’t the time to cheat-stick to your at-home hair care.

. 1 month before

. Keep up your maintenance. Continue with your regular trim and colour touch ups.

. Get glossed. To add extra shine to your hair, ask your stylist to apply a clear colour gloss. This treatment does not alter the colour of your hair, but it infuses it with a glass like sheen.

. 1 week before

. Touch up your colour. Plan to do it 3 or 4 days before the big day so your hair looks picture perfect.

. Confirm your W-day appointment. While you’re at it, schedule a scalp massage as part of your package-this will leave you feeling relaxed and stress-free.
