You’re in the midst of a serious floral glitch- the tulips you want in your bouquet are the victims of a global epidemic. There are no tulips ANYWHERE! Your reaction is to:

A. Burst into tears and take it as a sign that the day of your dreams is as doomed as those darn tulips.

B. Have a minor meltdown because you really, really wanted tulips! After a few hours of pouting, you choose another flower.

C. Take the florists advice and go with freesia instead because it looks similar and the fragrance is absolutely intoxicating.

Your aunt and her daughter aren’t speaking to each other the week before the wedding. Both threaten not to come. You.

A. Have fits of weepiness whenever you think about it.

B. Delegate the matter to your mother ( you have enough to worry about) but curse them when you’re rearranging the seating plan.
C. Tell them you’d love to have them there and ask them to let you know if they plan to come at least three days before the wedding so you have a chance to give your caterer an accurate head count.
You and your groom have agreed that he would plan the honeymoon, but so far no hotels or tickets have been booked. Your response when he says he’ll get to it “sometime” is:
A. ” I never should have let you! Why did I agree to marry you?”
B. ” I’m a little worried. I thought you were going to do it last week. Is there a problem?”
C. ” Great! Thanks for taking care of that, honey. I really appreciate your help.”

“It’s a given every bride wants to look ravishing on her wedding day,” says Lorraine Hamilton, a beauty therapist at Toronto’s Axis Spa. “To ensure you are looking your best, it’s imperative to network with your esthetician as soon as you know your wedding date. “She will work with you to put together a schedule of treatments (and a host of between-service home care products) tailored to your specific wants and needs. Once this is done, Hamilton recommends booking all your appointments in advance so you can get what you want, when you want it.

Choosing a wedding venue can seem pretty straight forward. It can be if you have done your homework. It can range anywhere from a community hockey arena to a five star hotel. Your personal taste and budget will be the determining factor.

With a little of help and soft lighting any area can be transformed into a wedding reception venue. A lot of places offer a lot of open dates to book your facility, so that booking can be done with little forward planning. A hotel will require a lot more lead time up to your wedding day, at least 12 to 18 months in advance.

When checking out venues for your wedding make sure you know what is included. A lot of community centers have banquet tables only and maybe only ugly plastic chairs which may be fine with you, or you may have to rent tables and chairs that you are responsible to arrange and pay for. That great deal may not be as great as you thought.

Hotels offer full service and can do everything for you, but at a high cost.

Sometimes leaving the city and going to a rural venue can be an option, Prices are acceptable, their are more open dates, and it might be a refreshing change from the usual wedding choices. Your guests might enjoy a country wedding that is located in a quiet location. Parking is never a problem! And remember, the same services can be offered as in a more traditional setting.

I am Vernon Cole of King Cole Catering and Banquet Centre and we offer a first class facility with superior service.

Picking a caterer seems to be a bit of a gamble sometimes. Get to know your prospective caterer early on by talking and meeting with them to get a feel for their interest in your wedding and being able to accommodate your needs. What you need to do to choose a caterer!

1. Interview three caterers to access their helpfulness. Wedding day can be a stressful time, so you want to work with someone with whom you trust can adapt to some change at the reception,(some extra guests arrive that did not confirm they would attend.)

2. If you’re wedding is in the prime wedding months of spring, summer and fall, book early, 12 months in advance.

3. A well known caterer is not necessarily the best choice, they are usually so busy or so over booked, they may not be able to give you the quality that you are expecting.

4. Choose a caterer that you have a good feeling for, usually after your first meeting. Ask for references, and ask your friends their experiences.

5. While price is important, pick someone with whom you trust will do exactly what you want for your wedding reception. What you are looking for is value (not the cheapest.) This is your special day; you don’t want to be upset with your caterer.

6. Pick a caterer that includes everything in their pricing (no extra charges.) What seemed like a good deal ended up costing you more than you realized. Honest pricing is the best.

7. Pick a caterer that will be available to discuss with you questions that you have or changes that you wish to make, menu or program changes. You want someone who is timely with returning your calls or e-mails.

8. I can not emphasize enough the importance of good references. If someone else had a good experience, you will as well.

9. Communication is an important factor to success. Each party knows what to expect from each other.

10. Choose a caterer that you feel comfortable with and takes a professional approach to working with you, not someone that tells you what you need.

Make your party an event to remember by combining imagination, sentiment and spirit with plenty of careful tried and true planning

Finding the place

The first big decision is selecting a location. The range of options for a wedding reception is surprisingly wide-you can choose sites that reflect your personality and enhance the tone and style of your wedding celebration. Hotels, banquet halls and convention facilities are classic choices, offering grand entrances, large-scale decorations and the luxury of space for a large number of wedding guests.

Most cities and towns also offer unconventional locations. Use your imagination to discover something a little out of the ordinary. A shared interest or hobby (maybe what attracted you to each other in the first place) might be a great source of inspiration. For instance, if you are campers or nature lovers, hold your reception outdoors at a city or provincial park; if you love art, try a gallery or a museum; if you ski, book a lodge. A limited budget shouldn’t put a damper on your party plans. Couples with a little cash and lots of heart could host their wedding receptions at congregation halls, community centers or, of course, at home. When you’re not sure whether reception services are offered at a particular location, it never hurts to ask. You may wind up setting a trend.
